US clinker production up 15% y/y in July 2014

The USGS has released its monthly report on cement shipments for July 2014. In the US and Puerto Rico, shipments of Portland and blended cements increased by 11% y/y to reach 9 million t. In the first seven months of the year, shipments totalled 48.5 million t, approximately 8% higher than in the corresponding period in 2013. Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois received around 36% of shipments in July 2014, while Missouri, Texas, California, Michigan and Florida were among the top cement-producing states.

In January – July 2014, clinker production came in at 40.9 million t, representing growth of 6% y/y. Production improved by 15% y/y in July alone, rising to 7.2 million t. The biggest clinker-producing states in July were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.

Masonry cement shipments were up 8% y/y to 216 000 t in July and increased by 8% y/y to 1.29 million t in the first seven months of the year.
