Cementos Argos recognised for its social responsibility efforts
Colombian construction materials manufacturer Cementos Argos S.A. has been awarded the Latin American Prize for Social Responsibility FIIC 2014 – 2016. The award is organised by the Inter-American Construction Industry Federation (Federación Interamericana de la Industria de la Construcción – FIIC) in partnership with the Latin American Development Bank (Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina – CAF). It was presented to Cementos Argos at the 29th Inter-American Construction Industry Congress in Medellín.
The prize, which is awarded every two years, recognises companies operating within the construction sector that place a particular focus on social responsibility and that implement initiatives that have a positive effect on society, the economy and the environment.
This is the first time that a Colombian company has received the award. Commenting on the achievement, Jorge Mario Velásquez, President of Argos, said that the company was honoured to be the first firm in Colombia to be recognised for its sustainability efforts. He noted that Argos’ vision includes social, environmental and economic aspects – the three pillars that support the company’s growth strategy.
