Cement consumption and production growth in Colombia
Grey cement production improved by 15.9% y/y in Colombia in April 2014. According to DANE, production levels reached around 1.03 million t during the month, while domestic sales increased by 4.3% y/y to 957 000 t. Cement dispatches improved in Huila (18%), Bolívar (10.3%), Antioquia (6.5%) and North Santander (35.3%). However, they declined by 30.1% in Córdoba.
In January – April 2014, production grew to 3.84 million t, up 11.8% y/y. Domestic dispatches in the first four months of this year came in at approximately 3.74 million t, 11.6% higher than in the corresponding period in 2013.
Over the last 12 months to April 2014, production levels rose by 8.1% y/y and national dispatches by 7.8% y/y, reaching 11.66 million t and 11.25 million t, respectively. Dispatches of grey cement increased in 15 of the 21 regions analysed, including Antioquia, Cundinamarca, North Santander, Bolívar and Valle del Cauca.
