USGS: cement in November 2014

The USGS has released its latest data on shipments of cement to final customers and the production of clinker in the US from January 2013 through November 2014, as well as data on the imports of cement and clinker for November 2014 and the year through November.

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico in November 2014 were 6.5 million t, essentially unchanged from the level in November 2013. Shipments for the year through November were 82.4 million t, up by about 7% from the same period in 2013. The leading Portland cement-producing states in November were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama, in descending order. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, in descending order) received about 39% of the November shipments.

Clinker production totalled 6.8 million t in November 2014, up by about 4% from the output in November 2013. Production for the year through November totalled 68.5 million t, up by around 6%. The leading clinker-producing states in November were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania, in descending order, and these accounted for nearly 47% of the US total.

Masonry cement shipments reached approximatey 152 000 t in November 2014, an 8% decrease from November 2013. Shipments for the year through November totalled 2.1 million t, up by 5%. The leading masonry cement-consuming states were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia and North Carolina, and these received nearly 52% of November’s shipments.

November 2014 imports of cement and clinker (778 000 t) were 23% higher than those in November 2013. Imports for the year through November totalled 7.82 million t, up by about 17% from the same period in 2013.
