World Cement,
The latest Mineral Industry Surveys report provides data on the shipments of cement to final customers and the production of clinker in the United States from January 2014 through June 2015.
Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in June 2015 were about 8.9 million metric t, up by 7.6% from the level in June 2014. Shipments for the year through June totalled 40.8 million t, up by 3.6% from the same period in 2014. The leading producing States for Portland and blended cement in June were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and Michigan. The leading consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, and Ohio) received about 36% of the June shipments.
Clinker production totalled 7.0 Mt in June 2015, up by 7.2% from the output in June 2014. Production for the year through June was 35.3 Mt, up by 4.7% from the same period in 2014. The leading clinker-producing States in June were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida, and Alabama.
Masonry cement shipments in June 2015 of about 220 000 metric tons were up by 6.1% from those of June 2014. Shipments for the year through June were 1.09 Mt, up slightly from the same period in 2014. The leading masonry cement-consuming States were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina, and Georgia, and these received 51% of June’s shipments.
June 2015 imports of cement and clinker of 1.2 Mt were 34% higher than those in June 2014. Imports for the year through June totalled 4.9 Mt, up by about 39% from the same period in 2014. Some of the growth in imports relative to production reflects higher consumption in certain districts that have traditionally been significantly reliant on imports, as well as production constraints, including those related to still idle kilns, in some other districts.
