Brazilian cement firms join forces

The Board of Directors of Cimpor – Cimentos de Portugal, SGPS, S.A. (Cimpor), has approved a merger between CCB – Cimpor Cimentos do Brasil S.A. (Cimpor Brasil) and InterCement Brasil S.A. Cimpor fully but indirectly owns both of the Brazilian companies. The merger aims to consolidate and enhance operational efficiency and services in the country.

In December 2012, Brazil’s domestic cement sales fell 1% y/y to 5.07 million t. However, total sales levels of cement produced within the country came in at 68.3 million t for the whole of 2012. This marked an increase of 6.9% y/y, up from 63.9 million t.
