Sri Lankan cement maker, INSEE Cement, a subsidiary of Siam City Cement, has been recognised for its environmental performance at Haritha Sihinaya 2017, an educational and environmental exhibition organised by the North Westerern Provincial Council.
Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena presented the company with a Green Platinum Award at the opening ceremony of the event.
The company produced the Sri Lanka’s first cement brand to be given Green Labelling Certification by the Green Building Council. The green cement is produced with less than 7 kg of CO2 emissions per bag.
“INSEE Cement’s contribution to sustainable construction is twofold,” INSEE Commercial Director, Janaka Weerakoon, told local media. “One is to minimise environmental damage through optimisation of process and project and the second if through dissemination of knowledge and information to a wider audience.”
Formerly known as Holcim (Lanka) Ltd, INSEE was bought by Siam City Cement and rebranded as INSEE last year.
