Neeraj Akhoury has taken over the role of Managing Director and CEO at Indian cement manufacturer, ACC. Akhoury joined ACC’s board on 16 December 2016 as Managing Director and CEO Designate.
Akhoury was previously CEO of Lafarge Surma Cment and the Country Representative of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh. He joined LafargeHolcim in India in 1999 and has worked in Nigeria for the company, as well as at the company’s headquarters in Paris.
ACC is 50.05% owned by LafargeHolcim.
“This is an exciting phase for the company and the cement industry, as the government moves ahead with its agenda for transformative economic growth,” said Akhoury in a statement.
“Going forward, my focus will be on working with my team to leverage the company’s great strengths to achieve the highest possible levels of customer service, operating performance and cost competitiveness.”
Akhoury takes the role at ACC amid rumours in the local media that LafargeHolcim is considering a merger of ACC and Ambuja Cements – in which the cement giant also owns a controlling stake.
