Cement dispatches in Pakistan continued their impressive growth this year. According to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association, dispatches recorded an 18.48% year-on-year increase in April 2018 to 4.24 million t.
Year-to-date production after the first four months of the year stands at 16.75 million t, a 19.03% increase on the first four months of 2017.
Exports totalled 0.47 million t, compared to 0.26 million t over the same month in 2017, continuing the strong year-on-year monthly growth in March. This follows falls in monthly export volumes between August 2017 and January 2018, as the domestic market took a larger share of production.
With some expansion projects recently completed, however, capacity may now exist within the Pakistani cement industry to send increasing volumes to export.
Afghanistan was the major buyer of Pakistani cement, taking 0.13 million t in April, while India took 0.12 million t. Seaborne exports totalled 0.22 million t.
