Within the framework of cooperation between the GOAU ACT Engineering College and JSC Belgorod cement, college students took part in the implementation of environmental and ecological measures.

Belgorod cement, with the direct support of the regional administration, has realised a unique project for the reclamation of the chalk and clay quarry ‘Polygon’. The area has been planned and levelled, and black soil has been imported and laid. The next stage of the project involved the planting of trees and shrubs, as well as sowing grass seed. To date, the 25 hectares have been reclaimed, and more than 13 000 trees have been planted.

As part of these measures, workers from the plants have prepared the site, together with the students, for the landing of new seedlings.

Eventually, after the completion of remediation, the site of the ‘Polygon’ quarry will be the largest forest-park zone, and will serve as a recreation area, where Belgorod residents can relax in natural surroundings.

Similar events involving students of the engineering college and other educational institutions in Belgorod will be regularly held in the future.
