Holcim announces senior management changes

World Cement,

Holcim Ltd has announced changes in its senior management team, which will be effective as of 1 October 2014.

Firstly, Urs Bleisch has been nominated to become a member of the Holcim Executive Committee. Bleisch is Corporate Functional Manager and he will continue to carry out his current responsibilities for Holcim Technology Ltd, Holcim Group services Ltd, as well as for the project management office of the Holcim Leadership Journey.

Secondly, Holcim Area Manager for Canada, the UK and the US, Alain Bourguignon, will be seconded to the joint Divestment Committee set up by Lafarge and Holcim in light of their proposed merger plans. He will be supported by Marc Soulé, Lafarge’s Senior Vice President of Performance Management. Soulé and Bourguignon will perform management presentations to potential buyers of the assets listed for disposal by Lafarge and Holcim. Together, they will prepare the option of divesting these assets, including the option of separating them out in a single package, either in Europe or worldwide. In this case, if management personnel are required for the newly divested assets, then Bourguignon would be suggested for the future CEO role and Soulé for CFO.

The two building materials producers announced their intention to form a ‘merger of equals’ in April of this year, releasing a list of proposed asset disposals in July and a more detailed plan for their Brazilian operations in August. Holcim notes that: ‘Different options for how these divestments should be executed are currently being considered and discussed with the regulatory authorities and with potential buyers. Today’s announcement should not be taken as indicating that either Holcim or Lafarge would prefer one option over another. Any option considered will be subject to the approval of regulatory authorities and the completion of the proposed merger between Holcim and Lafarge, and will be carried out in the framework of the relevant social processes and ongoing social dialogue with the employee representatives' bodies.’

Furthermore, Roland Köhler, who is a member of the Holcim Executive Committee and responsible for Continental Europe, will now also be in charge of the UK. This region will henceforth be known as ‘Europe’. In addition, Andreas Leu, a member of the Holcim Executive Committee and in charge of Latin America, will take on responsibility for the US and Canada. This larger area will be referred to as the ‘Americas’.
