CSI publishes updated co-processing guidelines

World Cement,

The WBCSD Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) has published an updated version of its ‘Guidelines for Co-Processing Fuels and Raw Materials in Cement Manufacturing’. The guidelines offer a technical overview of the main issues and principles regarding the responsible selection and use of fuels and raw materials. They have been updated to reflect the latest ‘technological developments, the changing nature of alternative fuels and materials, and the evolution of stakeholder expectations in recent years, as well as to include the CSI members’ collective expertise and experience in co-processing since the document's first publication in 2005’.

The guidelines aim to provide a reference point for cement manufacturers in terms of sustainable approaches to selecting and utilising fuels and raw materials, whilst demonstrating the environmental, social and economic benefits of co-processing. The CSI notes that application of the guidelines forms part of its members’ commitment to the CSI Charter.

To accompany the guidelines, the CSI has also released a companion document that explains the way in which co-processing impacts society and outlines how the cement industry ‘can engage with regulators as part of their stakeholder engagement around the use of alternative fuels and raw materials’.

The guidelines and companion document can be accessed via the WBCSD CSI website and the links below:
