ABB Finland celebrates 125 year anniversary

Congratulations to ABB Finland, which celebrates its 125th anniversary today. Established as ‘Strömberg’ by Gottfrid Strömberg in Helsinki in 1889, today the company employs more than 5000 people in 30 locations and achieved sales of €2.3 billion in 2013.

ABB Finland specialises in automation and power technology, serving customers in power transmission and distribution, building technology, sustainable transportation, renewable power, industry automation and marine solutions.

Today, ABB Finland is one of our most dynamic and successful country organisations and we continue to invest substantially in innovation and production facilities,” said ABB Chief Executive Officer Ulrich Spiesshofer. “I would like to thank our colleagues in ABB Finland for their long standing excellent results and confirm our strong commitment to grow together in the future,” Spiesshofer added.

ABB Finland has a very important global role within ABB, being home to the lead centre for energy-efficient Low Voltage drives and the successful Azipod propulsion system for ships. Subsea transformers and grid automation are also examples of Finnish innovation.

With more than 800 technologists and more than €190 million in investment annually, the company is one of ABB’s global research and development hubs and was the second largest research and development investor in Finland in 2013.
