Sponsor Kepler Energy has revealed plans for the development of a 30MW tidal energy fence project in the Bristol Channel in the United Kingdom. The project would cost £143 million.

The initial Bristol Channel tidal fence is expected to be located in the Aberthaw to Minehead stretch of water. Subject to planning and financing, the project could be operational by 2021.

The tidal energy technology is similar to a water mill and has been developed by Oxford University for deployment in shallow, lower velocity tidal waters around the UK coastline and also in overseas waters.
