Babcock awarded fleet management contract by Rail Freight Services
Babcock International Group has been awarded a multimillion contract by Rail Freight Services (RFS) to provide a fleet-managed service for its UK-based Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME). The contract runs for 5-years with a 5-year extension option.
Babcock will use its proven delivery method, ALCAMiE™, to optimise RFS’s HME and specialist ancillary equipment, principally located in Greater London, Essex and Kent. The systems and process provided by Babcock will deliver granular data, helping to drive strategic decisions and reduce ownership costs whilst allowing RFS to focus on its core operations.
The scope of the contract also includes additional services and the management and procurement of ground engaging tools and tyres.
“We are committed to continually improve our performance through reliable machinery which, in turn, ensures an efficient and continued service for our customers. In partnering with Babcock, we can concentrate on what we do best – delivering a premier service in loading and unloading of railway wagons and waterborne vessels – leaving Babcock to support us with their asset management expertise,” said Jim Flatman, Business Manager (RFS).
Martin Lumsden, Babcock’s Mining & Construction Head of Operations (UK), added: “We are delighted to be awarded this new contract with Rail Freight Services, and look forward to partnering with them in transforming their fleet performance, sharing best practice and delivering long term benefits.”
At present, Babcock manages almost 30 000 vehicles and 176 000 equipment stock lines around the world. It provides fleet management services to Aggregate Industries and Lafarge’s HME fleets in the UK, US and Canada. RFS, a loading/unloading specialist for railway wagons and waterborne vessels, counts Hanson Aggregates amongst its clients.
