Consumption declines in Spain’s regional cement markets
Following the news that national cement consumption fell by 2.9% to 978 688 t in May and dropped by 3.5% y/y in the first five months of 2014, cement consumption figures for Andalucía and Cataluña have now been released.
In May alone, cement consumption in Andalucía dropped by 3.8% to 163 627 t. Volumes were also down in January – May 2014, contracting by 3% to 710 960 t.
Domestic consumption in Cataluña saw double-digit declines. Some 119 000 t was sold in the region in May 2014 compared to 152 000 t in the same month in 2013. However, export volumes improved, rising to 261 996 t.
