Loesche installs vertical roller mill in Berrenrath
Loesche has installed an LM 28.3 D coal mill in Berrenrath, Germany, after being awarded the contract by RWE Power. This is the second vertical roller mill to be installed at the site, which mills dry lignite to grained fuel. The new mill will increase the production of pulverised lignite dust by 500 000 tpa, helping to satisfy rising demand for the fuel.
Preparatory work for the project began in May 2011, with construction work completed within 13 months. Loesche’s scope of supply included technology, complete process equipment and the preparation of the entire mill building as the general contractor. Local companies were also involved in the construction of the new plant, which had to be integrated into the existing site’s operations. As part of the expansion project, six tube dryers and various production techniques were modernised and a silo was constructed to allow for the transportation of the dust by truck.
This is the second LM 28.3D mill to be installed at the site, with the other in operation since 2008.
