World Cement,
According to Germany’s Federal Statistical Office, at the end of last year, there were 1.008 million engineers employed in Germany. This represents an increase of 15 000 jobs y/y. Within this sector, mechanical engineering is the largest employer. In the final quarter the number fell slightly, which is attributed to seasonal effects. Taking this into account, it is evident that the sector is performing well despite the difficult environment.
According to the German cement association (VDZ), the German cement industry employs around 7600 people and has an annual turnover of ~€2.2 billion.
New website
VDZ has revamped its website, www.vdz-online.de. The new website aims to make the wealth of information and services offered by the VDZ more accessible. The website includes energy and economic policy positions of the German cement industry, and also describes the range of services offered, including concrete testing, environmental testing, product certification and training.
