According to the Financial Times, HeidelbergCement has suspended operations at its cement plant near Donetsk in Ukraine due to the ongoing unrest in the region. The FT reports that HeidelbergCement was ‘unwilling to co-operate with the separatists and would abide by EU sanctions’. The plant reportedly employs 500 people, whose jobs are at risk if the situation does not improve. The company has already disconnected its local computers from its global network to protect its IT systems, the newspaper reports. Operations at the company’s other two plants in Ukraine are unaffected.
