Tarmac has strengthened its role in the quarrying sector through the appointment of senior vice-president Martin Riley and quarry manager Kim Shilcock to the Institute of Quarrying Board of Trustees.

Mr Riley has over 30 years of experience in the construction and quarrying sector, beginning his career as an apprentice. Mr Shilcock has worked in the industry for over 40 years as an operator, supervisor and manager and is a former chair of the IQ’s Derbyshire branch.

The Institute of Quarrying is the international professional body for quarrying, construction materials and the related extractive and processing industries, with over 5,000 members in some 50 countries of the world. The Institute's long-term objective is to promote progressive improvements in all aspects of operational performance through education and training.

IQ Chairman Dr Miles Watkins said: “Diversity of experience across our board members is important for the Institute to grow and prosper for its members. Within that, direct sector experience in both executive and operational capacities is vital to ensure the relevance of our efforts. I am delighted to welcome Martin and Kim to join me and the other board members to steer the Institute toward a very bright future.”
