Acquisitions

The Vicat Group has purchased Sagar Cements’ stake in Vicat Sagar Cement Company, which operates a 3 million tpa cement plant in North Karnataka, India. In Turkey, Sabanci Holding’s cement company, Çimsa, has reportedly acquired Sançim Bilecik Çimento. Finally, in the US, Martin Marietta announced that it has completed its acquisition of Texas Industries, Inc., following shareholder approval from both companies.

New facilities

OCL India Ltd, part of Dalmia Cement, has commissioned its new cement plant in West Bengal, which represents an investment of Rs.615 crore. Meanwhile, local press reports indicate that the Aden Free Zone Authority (AFZ) and Dar Al-Yemen Co. Ltd have signed an agreement to construct a new cement plant in Yemen. The contract is worth US$32 million and the project is expected to take 8 – 11 months to complete. Over in Russia, refractory specialist Magnezit Group has completed its new 100 000 tpa periclase clinker facility in Satka.

Contracts and projects

A TEC Production & Services GmbH has won a contract for the upgrade and efficiency optimisation of the preheater at Çimentas Elazig’s Anatolia-based Elazig cement plant, Turkey. Furthermore, PM-Technologies, in association with Cinar Ltd, announced that it has carried out two kiln upgrade projects in Venezuela.
