ABB introduces new mounting features on drives

World Cement,

ABB has released a range of new mounting features. These are available on multiple ABB drives, including the IP55 and IP21 variants, and the new general purpose drive, ACS580, and allow variable-speed drives to be used in more applications. The features are designed to make mounting and installation more convenient and cost-effective.

A separately mountable cable box comes complete with its own fixings. This allows it to be mounted to the wall before installing the drive, meaning the cables can be glanded and made off without the drive obstructing the process. The box can also be left when the drive is removed for servicing, preventing damage to the cables and allowing the drive to be replaced more quickly. Simple plates make it straightforward to attach UK steel wire armoured cable glands to the drive.

Wall mounted drives are now available up to 250 kW, giving access to a range of powers in a compact drive without having to move up to a cabinet mounting. This is both more cost effective and occupies less space in the control room. Larger power modules with ratings up to 560 kW can now be cabinet mounted, with no need to design and manufacture shrouds, while wheels on the cabinets allow the units to be moved quickly and safely.
