BULKEX16 announces key speaker

BULKEX16 has announced Martin Downey, Bulk Terminal and Operational Engineering Director at The Bristol Port Company, who will present at BULKEX16 when it takes place at Harrogate International Centre on 5 – 6 October.
Martin Downey is Bulk Terminal and Operational Engineering Director at Bristol Port, and is skilled in all aspects of bulk handling and port engineering. He is responsible for handling a variety of bulk cargoes from transhipment, unloading and storage to reloading.
Highly experienced in the commercial logistics and demographics of the UK bulk market, Martin’s knowledge ranges across all areas of aggregates extraction, processing, distribution and marketing with further experience of coated minerals, the recycling of secondary aggregates and land filling of waste. He has managed several joint ventures. In Bristol he is responsible for the purchase, maintenance and development of equipment for one of the world’s most technically advanced ports.
President of the Materials Handling Engineers Association Michael Kaye said: “We are delighted that Martin Downey from The Bristol Port Company is able to join us and share his considerable experience and insights. Martin is responsible for the UK's second largest coal import terminal, handling six million t per annum at its peak and supplying fuel for six of the UK's power stations. Before that, he worked in the quarrying industry for 14 years, extracting a wide variety of products throughout the country, culminating in managing a super quarry in the North West before moving into the port industry.”
