Spanish cement consumption falls below 1 million t in April

According to Oficemen, cement consumption in Spain came in at 936 956 t in April 2013. This was 13% lower than the more than 1 million t of cement consumed in April 2012. Accumulated domestic sales in the first four months of the year declined by 25% y/y to 3.4 million t. Production levels suffered a similar fate, falling by 19.3% in April alone, and by 25.9% y/y in January – April.

In other news, Isidoro Miranda, Director General of Lafarge Spain, has been appointed as President of Oficemen. Jaime Ruiz de Haro, José Ma Aracama, Feliciano González and Jorge Wagner have been announced as Vice Presidents.
