World Cement,
CEMBUREAU, the European Cement Association, welcome Cliona Cunningham as their new Public Affairs & Communications Director.
Cliona joins CEMBUREAU at a crucial moment for the European cement industry and its EU-level engagement. With the green and digital transitions advancing, the implementation of the Clean Industrial Deal underway, and the sector’s own Net Zero Roadmap setting a clear course, the policy and communications landscape is more strategic and integrated than ever.
In her role, Cliona will lead the association’s public affairs and communications strategy, ensuring coherence between advocacy, narrative, and stakeholder engagement. Her focus will include promoting the cement sector’s essential role in industrial decarbonisation, its contribution to Europe’s economic resilience, and the enabling policy conditions required to scale up innovation and investment across the cement-concrete value chain and support the sector’s deep decarbonisation.
Cliona is a highly experienced professional with a long-standing track record in EU public affairs and communications, with a proven ability to translate complex policy priorities into strategic outreach and build enduring partnerships across institutions, industry, and civil society.
Cliona Cunningham said: "The European cement sector has a vital contribution to make in building Europe’s future, in every sense of the word. I’m very pleased to join CEMBUREAU at such a dynamic time, and I look forward to working with our members and stakeholders to help shape the debate with clarity, credibility, and ambition."
Koen Coppenholle, CEO of CEMBUREAU, added: "We are delighted to have Cliona join the team. She arrives at a time when Europe’s industrial resilience and climate ambition must go hand in hand. Her experience will be key in helping us communicate how our sector is not only decarbonising, but also contributing to Europe’s competitiveness, strategic autonomy, and leadership in clean industrial innovation."
