Tarmac contributes to Mountsorrel Railway

World Cement,

Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre recently has a visit from His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, who met volunteers and businesses who have helped to create the heritage centre and restore the Mountsorrel Railway. One of the local companies who met with the Prince was Tarmac, the largest donors of the project, which contributed a total of £754 336 over three years via the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF).

Additionally, Tarmac also donated a range of construction materials and provided professional advice during certain phases of the project. A significant number of Tarmac employees have also volunteered on the project.

Trevor Warren, major projects and community liaison manager for Tarmac, who is based at Mountsorrel quarry, said: “It was fantastic to meet His Royal Highness to show how we’re supporting communities around our sites and helping this project to protect the region’s cultural heritage. The volunteers at the Heritage Centre have done an outstanding job, and I was immensely proud to attend the event on behalf of Tarmac." Steve Cramp, CEO for MARCH, added: “We never thought when we started the work that the Prince of Wales would want to come and see the project when it was completed, and all of the volunteers were greatly honoured to find that His Royal Highness was so interested in what we have created. None of this would have been possible were it not for the help of Tarmac, who have supported us all the way and we are very grateful to them for the faith they showed in us.”
