Italcementi’s Bulgarian project, Devnya Cement, is reportedly on course to be completed by the end of September. The plant has undergone a full reconstruction to modernise operation and bring in the most up-to-date environmental controls in accordance with Italcementi’s policies. The capacity of the completed plant will be 7000 tpd of clinker or 3 million tpa of cement, according to Italcementi’s website.

Strabag and Chinese partner CBMI have been working on the plant, which marks one of the biggest investments in Bulgaria in recent years.

Rezzato revamp

Italcementi is also working on a revamp project at its Rezatto plant in Italy. Built in 1964, the plant is to be modernised through an investment of €150 million, which will make it one of the most efficient and eco-friendly cement plants in Europe. In a statement on the company’s website, Mr Carlo Pesenti, Italcementi’s CEO, says: “Along with Calusco d’Adda and Matera plants, the new revamped plant will be one of our cutting-edge cement plants in Italy. The Group is currently investing also in India and Bulgaria but this commitment in Italy is a further demonstration of our local roots and our trust in the future of our Country despite the current difficult economic scenario. I wish to thank Rezzato and Mazzano communities for their support to this project. This project will certainly improve the sustainability of the area.”
