April cement sales figures from Spain and the Canary Islands
Spain
Oficemen has confirmed that cement consumption in Spain dropped by 5.6% y/y (51 081 t) in April to 858 920 t. Cement consumption in January – April 2014 came in at just over 3.26 million, around 115 826 t less than in the corresponding period in 2013. Although consumption continued to contract in the 12 months to April 2014, there was some indication that this decline was beginning to moderate.

Sales of cement in the Canary Islands reached 40 307 t in April 2014, compared to 35 370 t in March. However, accumulated sales in the first four months of the year fell by 13.1% to 140 488 t.
Figures from the Canary Islands’ Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) also indicate that cement sales increased by 5.2% y/y in Lanzarote in April. At 4472 t, cement sales volumes for the month were also 29% higher than March’s 3466 t. Sales of cement in Lanzarote grew by 21% y/y to approximately 14 441 t in January – April 2014.
