Dyckerhoff Foundation announces new €30 000 award

The Dyckerhoff Foundation is awarding this year, the third Klaus Dyckerhoff Prize of €30 000 in appreciation of pioneering contributions to research or professional achievements in the invention and/or development of application or manufacturing processes in the field of hydraulic binding agents.

The prize will be given - exclusively upon the recommendation of third parties - to individuals but also to working groups in:

  • European universities.
  • Research departments of scientific and technological institutes of the construction and building materials industry.
  • Research departments from the construction and building materials industry for:
  1. exceptional individual work, in particular by young researchers with or without a doctorate.

Or

  1. long-term achievement in the field of building materials research.

The achievement is to be recognised should preferably have been made in the following research and usage fields: 

  • Material interaction between the manufacturing process and the usage of hydraulic binding agents.
  • Increases in energy and material efficiency of cement-based constructions.
  • Innovative development in the extraction of raw materials and preparation of cement and Portland cement clinker, in particular in the burning and grinding process.
  • The development of new areas of application for proven as well as newly developed hydraulic binding agents.

Nominations

Holders of relevant chairs in European universities, the directors of scientific and technological institutes in European associations of the construction and construction material industry and the directors of the research departments of European cement companies, can make nominations for the prize.

Nominations should be made before May 2011.

The following documents are requested:

  1. the nominated scientific work along with the letter of recommendation from the nominator, CV, list of publications as well as degree and, if applicable, doctorate of the candidate.

Or:

  1. a detailed CV with a description of the individual positions and scientific merits of the nominee in the field of construction material research, justification for the nomination and two further letters of recommendation for the candidate.

The Foundation’s board of trustees will decide the awarding of the prize based upon a corresponding recommendation from the Foundation's jury, which will critically examine the nominations.

The jury reserves the right to also refer to external scientific expert opinion. The panel's decision is final and recourse to legal action is excluded.
