Spain: cement sector recovery still a long way off says Oficemen

World Cement,

Spain’s cement association, Oficemen, has revealed that domestic cement consumption totalled 959 150 t in September 2013. This is approximately 6.1% higher than consumption in September 2013. However, accumulated consumption in January – September 2014 fell by 1% y/y to almost 8.08 million t. Oficemen expects the year to close with a decline of 1% y/y, meaning that 2014 will be the seventh year of percentage decreases.

Commenting on the figures, Oficemen’s Director General, Aniceto Zaragoza, noted that the recovery of the Spanish cement sector is still a long way off. He also called on the government to increase investment in the country’s infrastructure, noting that infrastructure spending by the government and public companies in 2009 is more than double the amount expected to be invested in 2015.
