Tarmac students presented with awards

The Institute of Quarrying has honoured three Tarmac colleagues for gaining top marks in their Mineral Extractives Technology foundation degrees.
Martin Riley, Tarmac’s senior vice-president, was asked to hand out the awards at the University of Derby in his capacity as deputy chairman of the IQ.
Half of this year’s six award winners work at Tarmac.
Stancombe Quarry's Lee Preater was given the Longcliffe Calcium Carbonates Award 1st year student, Howick Quarry’s Robert Kelly picked up the IQ Best Foundation Degree Student - Reginald W Coles Accolade, and Robert Symes, who works at Eysey Manor Quarry, won the Longcliffe Calcium Carbonates Award 2nd year student.
At the event Martin said: “It seems very fitting that, in the centenary year of the Institute of Quarrying, we are looking ahead and celebrating the future talent and the future leaders of this industry.
“The energy, enthusiasm and passion I’ve seen here today has been inspiring, and I’m very glad to know that the future of this industry rests in the capable hands of the talented people we see around the room today.”
