Titan Group wins accolade in Accountability Rating Greece 2009

World Cement,

Conducted by the Institute of Social Innovation since 2007 and widely recognised as the most reliable and objective rating of sustainable business practices in Greece, the Accountability Rating has played an important role in encouraging companies to more transparently disclose their policies, performance and impacts on social, environmental and governance issues.

The Accountability Rating uses an evaluation system of 170 different criteria in its examination of data published by companies. The 2009 Accountability Rating assessed 100 Greek companies on their transparency and sustainability. Rating was developed by CSR consultancy csrnetwork and international think-tank AccountAbility, and was first applied in 2004. The evaluations are published in Fortune magazine. The Accountability Rating system currently reviews companies in ten different countries, measuring the extent to which their major companies incorporate responsible practices at the heart of their business activities.

This honor comes to the Titan Group on the heels of being voted one of Fortune Magazine’s Best Companies for Leaders. Additionally, Titan America, an EPA Energy Star® Partner, won a number of awards in 2009 for energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, including the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence, the PCA’s Award for Overall Environmental Excellent Award, the Roanoke Valley Cool Citizens Award and multiple safety awards.

Titan America LLC, headquartered in Norfolk, Va., is the premier heavy building materials producer in the eastern United States. Titan America’s products include cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and fly ash beneficiation. Its parent company, Titan Cement Company, S.A., headquartered in Athens, Greece, is a signatory to the UN Global Compact, a group of companies committed to sustainable and socially responsible business practices.
