CSI launches Global Water Tool for the Cement Sector

Published by , Editor
World Cement,

The Cement Sustainability Initiative has launched the Global Water Tool (GWT) for the Cement Sector and made it available online. The original GWT was first launched by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development in 2007 and is intended for companies to map their water use and assess their water risk by identifying geographic areas of water scarcity and stress on a global scale. Since the initial launch, more than 300 companies have made use of the tool and it has been customised for two business sectors (Oil and Gas and also Power Utilities) and one global region (India).

The cement sector GWT was launched at the Budapest Water Summit this week, with representatives from CSI member companies Holcim, Italcementi, Lafarge, Titan and Votorantim present to demonstrate the tool to summit participants. The GWT is a free resource, designed to help cement companies manage their water use more efficiently. Although the quantity of water used in cement production is less than in many business sectors, it is vital for operational purposes. Learn more and download the tool here.
