Lafarge Cement UK’s Dunbar cement plant achieves safety goal
Lafarge Cement UK’s Dunbar cement plant is celebrating the achievement of going a year without any ‘Lost-Time-Incidents’ (LTI), in which a contractor or employee is forced to take time off work due to an accident. The cement plant reached this goal by holding practical workshops, remedying potential hazards, focusing on leadership and proactive reporting.
To mark the achievement, a safety day was held at the site, which was attended by Lafarge Cement UK Industrial Director Rajeev Ramankutty. A special breakfast was served before employees took part in safety tasks and then received a half-day holiday.
“We’ve been working to introduce a zero-harm working environment where everyone takes extra responsibility to look out for themselves and their fellow workers. This includes reviewing our risk assessments in even greater depth and allocating dedicated days to address any potential hazards that have been raised. We also all signed a pledge last year committing to put safety at the front of everything we do,” commented Nigel Blair, Dunbar Works Manager.
