Chief Executive of the UK’s Construction Products Association (CPA), Dr Diana Montgomery, has been appointed chair of the new infrastructure group ‘Supply Chain Capacity and Skills’. The group will offer guidance and work with the government to recommend measures to improve capability and capacity, as well as offsetting inflationary pressures in the infrastructure sector.

“Over the next decade we expect to see record levels of investment in the UK’s infrastructure. It is in all of our interests to ensure that the costs of delivering this work are kept under control,” said Dr Montgomery. “I welcome the opportunity to work with colleagues from across the sector, ensuring that as an industry we deliver solutions to this important issue.”

Infrastructure Cost Review

The CPA has also noted that the government will be ‘launching a refresh’ of its Infrastructure Cost programme to deliver further cost reductions and enhancements to infrastructure delivery. This programme is carried out in collaboration with the Infrastructure Client Group (ICG), bringing together industry and government representatives. It will build on the Infrastructure Cost Review launched in 2010. A recent report, Infrastructure Cost Review: Measuring and Improving Delivery, indicates that its actions have helped to identify yearly cost savings of more than £3 billion (i.e. 15% average cost savings across infrastructure sectors).
