Buzzi's Fanna cement plant in Friuli Venezia Giulia is taken over by Alpacem. Buzzi subscribes to a 25% stake in the Austrian company Alpacem Zement Austria GmbH.
The two cement manufacturers Alpacem and Buzzi are further deepening their long-standing strategic partnership in the Alps-Adriatic region: Alpacem's subsidiary w&p Cementi SpA is taking over the Fanna cement plant in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia near Pordenone, which formerly belonged to Buzzi SpA. As part of this transaction, Buzzi SpA subscribes to a capital increase to acquire a 25% stake in the Austrian company Alpacem Zement Austria GmbH (formerly w&p Zement GmbH). However, the agreement reached for this purpose, which was signed on August 4, 2023, will only come into force after the antitrust review, which is expected to be completed in 2024. Until then, the Fanna cement plant will continue to operate under the name Buzzi Unicem Srl.
The two companies are thus extending their successful strategic partnership, which has existed in Italy and Slovenia since 2014, to Austria. Buzzi SpA currently holds 25% of the shares in each of the two Alcacem subsidiaries Salonit Anhovo d.d. in Slovenia and w&p Cementi SpA in Italy. With the acquisition of the Fanna cement plant, Alpacem is consolidating its market position in the Alps-Adriatic region. Within the Alpacem Group, the Fanna cement plant is now the third fully integrated plant in addition to the plants in Wietersdorf, Austria, and Anhovo, Slovenia.
"We are pleased that we will expand the strategic partnership. There are many future challenges in the cement sector that we can solve better together than we can on our own," say the two managing directors of Wietersdorfer Alpacem GmbH, Bernhard Auer and Lutz Weber. Above all, the two companies want to exploit synergy effects from the agreement that has now been concluded, especially in the implementation of CO2-neutral production.
