Cemvision and S:t Eriks have entered into a partnership agreement to continue driving innovation and reducing the climate footprint of the construction industry. The signed Lett er of Intent (LOI) is the result of several successful pilot projects using Cemvision’s climate-smart cement in S:t Eriks’ production. The next step in the collaboration is to develop and implement sustainable concrete solutions within water and sewage infrastructure.

The partnership between Cemvision and S:t Eriks is founded on a shared vision to enhance sustainability in civil construction. With S:t Eriks’ long-standing experience in delivering sustainable stone and concrete products, and Cemvision’s innovative cement technology, there is strong potential to accelerate the development of future-proof building materials.

The first step in the collaboration is to develop and implement sustainable concrete solutions for water and sewage infrastructure. S:t Eriks has already successfully tested Cemvision’s cement in its own production environment, and the next phase will be to implement this next-generation cement in commercial projects.

“This partnership is an important step toward scaling the use of climate-smart cement in critical infrastructure. We’re thrilled to have S:t Eriks join us on this journey. The cement applications they work with are both essential to society and in need of new, smarter solutions. Together, we can help build a more sustainable and future-ready society,” says Oscar Hållén, CEO of Cemvision.

Cement accounts for around 8% of global CO2 emissions annually. By using recycled industrial by-products from sectors such as mining and steel instead of limestone, Cemvision can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to traditional Portland cement. Concrete made with Cemvision’s cement also demonstrates high durability in water and sewage environments. The product off ers high resistance to sulfate and acid att acks, contributing to longer service life - crucial when expanding and renovating critical infrastructure.

“Our focus is on quality, long-term sustainability, and off ering our customers the best products available. We are constantly seeking new innovations to reduce the climate impact of our concrete products. Through our collaboration with Cemvision, we can signifi cantly cut emissions while maintaining the high standards we’re known for,” says Therese Kvarnström, Head of Quality and Sustainability at S:t Eriks.

A growing need for updated water and sewage infrastructure

Sweden is facing major investment needs in its water and sewage infrastructure. More than 75% of municipalities report a high or very high need for reinvestment in their water and wastewater facilities. Concrete plays a central role in this infrastructure – nearly all water reservoirs and purification basins are built with concrete, and around 25% of pipeline networks use concrete pipes. The technical lifespan of concrete pipes can reach up to 150 years, making it a robust and long-term solution for modern infrastructure planning.

In the coming months, Cemvision and S:t Eriks will continue testing to explore the potential for broader implementation of climate-smart cement in water and sewage systems. The partners also look forward to collaborating with municipalities and other stakeholders to identify projects where this new technology can have the greatest impact.
