Cement and clinker exports up 82.1% y/y in Cataluña in 2014
Figures released by Ciment Català, the representative body of the cement industry in Cataluña, Spain, indicate that consumption reached 1.31 million t in 2014. Although this represents a year-on-year decline of 10.7%, this is the smallest rate of contraction recorded over the last seven years. The amount of cement produced by the cement manufacturers associated with Ciment Català totalled approximately 2.24 million t last year, up 14.3% on 2013.
Export volumes of cement and clinker continued to soar in 2014, rising by 82.1% y/y to almost 2.85 million t.
In December 2014, consumption grew by 13.4% y/y to 101 389 t, while production dropped by 43.7% y/y to 113 220 t. Exports of cement and clinker were 8.5% higher than in December 2013, increasing to 203 468 t.
