The value of Portuguese cement exports improved in 2013

According to local press, a report published by Informa D&B indicates that approximately 5.2 million t of cement was produced in Portugal in 2013, representing around €338 million. Cement consumption in Portugal, where construction activity remains weak, fell by 23% to 2.7 million t. The value of the country’s national cement market contracted by 21% to €225 million. Cement imports, which mostly come from Spain, also experienced a slight decline in 2013. However, exports of Portuguese cement improved, rising by 30% y/y and reaching a value of €133 million. Algeria was the main destination for cement exports from Portugal.
