Construction

• A new study from the Freedonia Group, Construction Outlook in China, indicates Chinese construction expenditures will rise 7.8% annually.
• Bestway Cement signs MoU with NUST Institute of Civil Engineering for research and development on innovative cement solutions for construction in Pakistan.
• Norway’s construction industry will keep developing over the next five years with investment in transport infrastructure playing a key part, according to a recent report by Timetric’s Construction Intelligence Center.
• The Markit/CIPS report shows that construction slowed in July after the impressive performance in June.
• A Timetric Construction Intelligence Centre report shows that Asia-Pacific will invest over US$2.86 trillion in road and railway projects in the near future.

Quarterly results

• Indian cement company Shree Cement has reported a 62% drop in net profit for the quarter ending 30 June.
• Prism Cement, India, reported a net loss of Rs.8.04 crore for the quarter ending 30 June.
• French cement manufacturer Vicat has reported its results for the January – June period.
• Summit Materials, a vertically integrated construction materials producer, saw growth of 12.5% in net revenue for 2Q15.
• Buzzi Unicem has reported its 1H15 financial results, including a 1.6% increase in cement sales.
• The Mineral Products Association has announced sales volume increases for aggregates and ready mixed concrete in 2Q15 and 1H15.

Developments and projects

• Dangote Cement has commissioned a new cement plant in Zambia and plans to double capacity, according to reports.
• Hope designed HOPEFlow Rail concrete, which has been used in the Winchburgh Tunnel between Glasgow and Edinburgh for the first time.
• With the acquisition of the UK businesses from Lafarge, CRH has launched Tarmac, bringing together the Tarmac name with the Blue Circle logo.
