Cemex’s South Ferriby plant nearly ready to resume production

Commissioning is underway at Cemex’s South Ferriby cement facility, which was forced to temporarily close due to flooding in December 2013.
The plant, which produces around 800 000 tpa of cement and employs around 150 staff, has been closed since 5 December 2013 after a tidal surge caused the nearby River Humber to burst its banks, resulting in severe flooding and serious damage to the facility’s electrical systems.
A team of Cemex staff and external contractors from around the world has been working to repair the damage caused to the facility. A spokesman for Cemex told local press that commissioning has started on the cement grinder, which has been upgraded and improved, and production is expected to resume very soon.
