New research suggests that Northern Irish demand for key heavy building materials is at its strongest levels since the turn of the decade. The analysis from BDS Marketing Research shows demand for asphalt, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete have all increased – with one sector up by as much as third.
“Our latest findings make positive reading for the industry, as well as highlighting numerous changes to its structure,” said Andy Sales of BDS Marketing Research.
Major companies such as CRH, Lagan Group, and FP McCann feature strongly in the report, holding leading positions in asphalt, aggregates, and ready-mixed concrete production. There is some integration by a number of other companies, operating in two markets, with the remaining producers specialising on a single sector.
Since BDS Marketing Research 2011 analysis, company ownership has also changed, with some mergers and acquisitions and new entrants into the market, as well as some that have gone bust.
