Lafarge to showcase sustainable construction models at Ecobuild

Lafarge UK will reveal its sustainable construction solutions at Ecobuild 2012. Attendees will be able to explore the company’s ‘Cool Concrete’ building, a representation of a life-sized carbon friendly home. The design, which is inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s minimalist Barcelona Pavilion, draws on Lafarge’s ‘20 Rules of Sustainable Construction’. These include sourcing materials from local suppliers, exploiting natural lighting and using recycled rainwater.

The company’s proposed Waterford Hamel project will also be showcased, as well as its range of cement and concrete products. Waterford Hamel provides a blue-print for commercially viable zero carbon housing. If taken up, it could potentially exceed the government’s aim to make 100% of new homes carbon zero by 2016.

National Environment Manager at Lafarge Cement UK, Dave Shenton, stated: “It is an honour to be showcasing our products and latest housing construction project to an audience of industry experts at one of the world’s leading sustainability events. We pride ourselves on offering materials that are created with sustainability in mind throughout the production process.
