World Cement,
A new dosing silo for granulated blast furnace slag is being built at Rohrdorfer Zementwerk GmbH's Gmunden site, with an investment of €1.3 million.
Thanks to the new silo, pre-ground granulated blast furnace slag can be dosed specifically for cement grinding, resulting in significant CO2 savings . By grinding granulated blast furnace slag and limestone separately, the cement recipe can be further optimised, meaning less clinker is needed in the cement: clinker uses three times as much energy as limestone during grinding. The new process saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions without affecting the performance of the concrete.
As project manager, Stefan Barwart, Head of Maintenance at Rohrdorfer Zement GmbH, is coordinating the construction work by INOCON Industrial Plants GmbH. Construction will take two to three months. Commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
The new dosing silo is an important step on the way to CO2 – reduced cement production. The Rohrdorf Group aims to produce CO2 – neutrally at all its locations by 2038 at the latest .
