World Cement,
Innovations in concrete will be highlighted in a gathering of international experts at the University of Dundee.
9th International Concrete Conference at the university will welcome over 200 attendees from countries such as the US, China, India and Malaysia.
Research presented at the conference will discuss topics as divers as the use of waste plastic bottles in concrete blocks, low energy and even carbon dioxide cured concrete. The proceedings will form a major contribution to the international concrete practice.
The University of Dundee is a world leader in concrete technology, particularly relating to new advances in reliability, resilience and sustainability.
“This is a major event in the concrete calendar and highlights how concrete continues to be a vital part of our modern infrastructure,” said Professor Rod Jones, of the University of Dundee and Chairman of the conference organising committee.
“The Forth Crossing and V&A Dundee are the headline projects in Scotland at the moment and both have at their heart innovative uses of concrete that make these projects feasible.”
The conference will include a civic reception at Discovery Point in Dundee, overlooking the site of the V&A Dundee, where the main concrete contractors for the project will discuss the technical challenges involved in realising architect Kengo Kuma’s vision.
“The V&A project is a major international beacon for outstanding concrete construction,” said Professor Jones. “White concrete, black concrete, built on a recycled concrete aggregate sub-base, complex formwork for double curved walls, extensive use of GGBS… its concrete technology heaven!”
The International Concrete Conference 2016 takes place at the University of Dundee from Monday July 4th to Wednesday July 6th.
