Lafarge Sells Aggregates and Concrete Businesses

World Cement,

Lafarge is in the process of selling its 29 concrete plants and four aggregates quarries in Portugal to the construction group Secil. The transaction is subject to approval by the Portuguese competition authorities.

In Switzerland and France, Lafarge has sold eight aggregates pits and quarries, and four ready-mix concrete plants in Alsace (France), together with four ready-mix concrete plants in the Basle area in Switzerland to Holcim and a partner. As some of the gravel pits are located directly on the Rhine, Holcim will be able to supply gravel and sand by ship not only to Switzerland and South Germany but also to Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
