One of the leading manufacturers of construction materials in Germany, Holcim has agreed with the owners of Alfons Greten Betonwerk GmBH & co. KG to operate the precast and ready mixed concrete plants in Cloppenburg. This was effective from 1 January 2019, while Greten employees were informed of the change in mid-December. The Cartel Office has already given its approval.
The agreed transfer of the business includes land, building, facilities, and the transition of around 100 employees. Holcim will also take over the internationally established brand name, Greten. This particularly concerns concrete slatted floors and stable construction in the area of agricultural construction. The operation in Essen will be managed as the third location of Vetra Betonfertigteilwerke GmbH.
Vetra has successfully operated two precast concrete plants in neighbouring Oldenburg and Neermoor for many years, as well as having a sales office in Sweden. Vetra is a subsidiary of the Holcim Germany Group, working closely with two Dutch sister companies (Holcim Prefab Wanden and Holcim Coastal) in the precast concrete division.
“The precast concrete business segment already plays a key role in our strategy today and will continue to gain in importance in the future,” said Thorsten Hahn, CEO of Holcim Germany. “Serial construction has a future: I am pleased that we have been able to strengthen ourselves with this transfer of business in the area of precast concrete elements. We are already present in the vicinity and there are synergies in customer supply, planning, or logistics. The location complements the existing locations and we will continue to grow together.”
“We have been looking for a suitable successor for our family business for some time, because I wanted to step down for health reasons and did not succeed in the family,” said Alfons Greten, Managing Partner of Alfons Greten Betonwerk “With Holcim and its subsidiary Vetra, we have now found the right partner who wants to continue and expand the business here in Essen. Of course, this is not easy for us and we would like to sincerely thank all employees, customers, and suppliers for good and successful cooperation over many years.”
