Cemex is supplying 40 000 m3 of ready-mix concrete for the Upper West development of the Kurfürstendamm, one of Berlin’s most famous avenues. The development consists of two 118 m towers that will have 37 floors upon completion in 2017. This will make them some of Berlin’s tallest buildings. The towers are expected to have a positive economic impact and become a new landmark for the area. They will include a hotel, offices, retail outlet and a rooftop bar.

The pouring of the ready-mix concrete began in 2014, with the construction of the sub-base layer, and Cemex provided a special, high-strength ready-mix concrete to ensure that the bottom plate section would be reinforced enough to support the future 34 stories. The client also selected a Cemex ready-mix concrete with a very soft consistency that would be easy to process when used in large volumes in a short time frame.

"We delivered non-stop from 8 o'clock in the morning to the evening of the following day. The construction company requested an hourly output of up to 130 cubic meters," says Torsten Schiller, Cemex Key Account Manager for Germany’s Berlin region.

In the city, Cemex is also contributing to the Palais Holler, a new office space for the non-profit Holler Foundation which is situated near to the towers.
