World Cement,
Newly released statistics show that some 317 640 t of cement was exported from Georgia to Azerbaijan in January – August 2013. This equates to 5.01% of total exports from Georgia to Azerbaijan and is an increase of 8.12% y/y. The total value of the cement exports over this period is estimated at US$23.44 million.
Cement demand in Azerbaijan is increasing and significantly outstrips supply, though new capacity is coming through to close this gap. The Gazakh Cement plant was officially opened this summer, adding 1 million tpa of cement to the country’s capacity. This followed the inauguration of the 1.7 million tpa Holcim (Azerbaijan) OJSC cement plant in 2012. In all, the cement market is expected to grow by 2.5% between 2012 and 2016 on the back of an oil and gas boom.
