European Cement Association appoints new Chief Executive

World Cement,

Following the retirement of Jean-Marie Chandelle, Koen Coppenholle has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the European Cement Association (CEMBUREAU), whilst Claude Loréa has been appointed as Deputy Chief Executive.

Coppenholle has served as Head of European Affairs for ArcelorMittal since 2007 after fulfilling the role of Senior Counsel of European Affairs at General Electric Europe.

“I will ensure that the voice of our industry sector is heard in the major ongoing policy debates, ranging from the future design of European climate change and energy legislation to the reflection on a resource efficient society. In order to remain successful in Europe, the cement industry needs a competitive environment with an appropriate legal framework that ensures a level playing field and provides legal certainty and predictability for investments,” said Coppenholle.

“I am certain that Koen will rise to the challenge of positioning the cement industry in this ever-changing world,” stated Ignacio Madridejos, CEMBUREAU President. “In addition, I wish to express my thanks to Jean-Marie Chandelle for his dedication to CEMBUREAU during his 16 years as Chief Executive.”
